Menomonia  semele
Weeks Formation
Millard County, UT
Cambrian

Here is an extremely well preserved specimen of a fairly common trilobite from the Weeks Formation. With the Cedaria minor being the most common trilobite, this trilobite would be third most common behind the Modocia weeksensis. The Menomonia 's main characteristic is the stalked eyes that it used for seeing and hunting as it was buried under the silty sediment of the Cambrian sea floor. Rarely is the Menomonia  trilobite found this nice as the are usually disarticulated, found with the body tucked under, or the fragile eye stalks have broken off. This specimen would rank in the top 2% ever found. It measures 1/2" long and is nicely symmetrical.

Here is a rare, natural triple Menomonia semele plate from the Weeks Formation. Nice articulated specimens are hard to find and when found with complete eye stalks, make it a great find. There is also a nicely articulated Nephalicephalus beebei on the plate that measures 1/4"long.  This specimen piece is one of the few multiple Menomonia plates that I know of. The specimens measure 5/8", 3/8", 3/8" and are nicely centered on a squared matrix piece.
