SilurianHere is probably the finest crinoid ever to be found in the Waldron Shale Formation. This crinoid, Lyriocrinus melissa, is so well articulated that even the individual pinnules of the arms can be seen as they are splayed out in the feeding position. The crinoid measures 4" long and is extremely 3-D. I have to say this is certainly one of my favorite crinoids from the Waldron Shale!!

SilurianHere is an extremely rare crinoid from a new road cut location in southern Indiana. This crinoid, Lyriocrinus melissa, has a complete crown and partial stem centered on a dense limestone plate. The crystallized beige crown measures 2 1/8" long and has an attached stem that measures 1" long. A complete crown of a Lyriocrinus is one of the most sought after crinoids from the Waldron Shale Formation.
