Isotelus brachycephalus
Dillsboro Formation
Franklin County, IN
Ordovician

Here is one of the best, if not the best, Isotelus trilobites ever found in Indiana. This trilobite, Isotelus brachycephalus, measures a full 9" long and is extremely 3-D. It has been professionally prepared with the genal spines free standing. One of the main characteristic of the Isotelus brachycephalus is the genal spines curve outward which separates it from the more common Isotelus maximus. The other distinguishing characteristic is the smaller length to width ratio of the trilobite. This trilobite has an extremely thick exoskeleton and is fossilized a beautiful brown color. A true museum piece!!

Isotelus gigas
Dillsboro Formation
Franklin County, IN
Ordovician

Here is a fairly rare and excellently preserved trilobite from the Dillsboro Formation of southeastern Indiana. This trilobite, Isotelus gigas, is the rarest of the 3 types of Isotelus found in Indiana. It is as close to perfectly enrolled as you can get and is extremely 3-D. It measures 1 1/4" wide and is simply beautiful.
