Here is an unusual and extremely large type of fish scale found from the fossiliferous coal fields of southwestern Indiana. This specimen measures 1" long and is currently being studied to identify the genus and species. It is probably a scale from a type of lung fish that lived in the swamps of Indiana during the Pennsylvanian period.

Here is another type of fish scale found in the fossiliferous coal fields of southwestern Indiana. This specimen measures 7/8" long and is also currently being studied to identify the genus and species. This scale is more granulose and ornamental and is probably from another type of lung fish that lived in the swamps of Indiana during the Pennsylvanian period.
