SilurianHere is one of the most bizarre crinoids ever found in the Waldron Shale Formation. This ultra rare crinoid, Dimerocrinites inornatus, had only been seen by either a damaged cup or partial stem, but never together. Even some of the major crinoid collectors had no idea what the crown looked like that would be attached to a stem like that. Well, now you know. The ornate crown measures almost 2" long and the bizarre stem measures 3 1/4" long. By far, the rarest crinoid I have in my collection.

SilurianHere is a rare crinoid from the famous Waldron Shale quarry in Shelby County, Indiana. This outstanding example of the Silurian sea floor was found around 15 years ago before the quarry filled with water. This crinoid, Dimerocrinites occidentalis, is hardly ever seen. Its ornate crown, long flowing arms, and very thin stem makes it true collectors piece. Associated with the Dimerocrinites are three Eucalyptocrinites ovalis crinoids, a beautiful Platyostoma plebium gastropod, and other miscellaneous coral, bryozoan, and brachiopods. The Dimerocrinites crinoid measures 2 1/4" long. The longest Eucalyptocrinites ovalis measures 3" long. A true representation of what the sea floor of the Waldron Shale looked like during the Silurian period.
