Here is an outstanding example of a rare cystoid from the Waldron Shale Formation. This cystoid exhibits one of its feeding arms with the pinnules in the feeding position. There is also 1/2" of stem from the bottom of the cystoid. The overall specimen measures 3 1/4", while just the feeding arm alone measures 2 1/4" long. This may be the finest cystoid ever found in the Waldron Shale Formation of Indiana.

Here is an extremely 3-D example of a rare cystoid from the Waldron Shale Formation. Cystoids from the Waldron Shale are found only in a few areas in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. This specimen was found in a small outcrop that has been basically hunted out and sits nicely on top of a limestone base. The ornate plates of this cystoid are easily seen. This specimen measures almost 1" long.
